Fresh Strawberries with Curd Cheese and Sweet Pesto

Urania, February 2009 in Vienna, Austria
This is a café restaurant at the Donaukanal. The view is great, the interior is nice, and “fresh strawberries with Austrian Topfen and basil pesto” sounds and looks interesting, but the dish tastes somehow a tad…boring? Maybe because it’s not strawberry season…
Erdbeercremeschnitte – Strawberry Cream Slice

Café Konditorei Zauner, June 2008 in Bad Ischl, Austria
The almost 200 year old Café Zauner is SO famous going without introductions. Not only for the noble ambiance , their food is extremely good. Why did I say “food” ? Because even their breakfast ham and eggs is very tasty.
But, their cremeschnitte is definitely THE best I’ve ever had in Austria. (Well, I’ve already tried cremeschnitten in quite a number of famous pastry shops and cafés in Austria.)
Cremeschnitte is a cream slice similar to the French “mille-feuille” ( a thousand layers), believed to be originally from Hungary.
*Forgive me for being so emotional in this post. I’m really crazy about this pastry shop. Being in the beautiful imperial spa town Bad Ischl, sitting in nicely preserved historical tea rooms, and enjoying delicious desserts…, what’s better than that ?

Tartelette aux Fraise

Local bakery, March 2007 in Marseille, France
When visiting France in strawberry season, you will see in every bakery this little piece of heaven (or you just didn’t get there early enough). Try every one until finding your favorite :)
